Tasting note

An intense orange wine with soft tannins and aromas and flavours of dried apricot, beeswax, and pine.

Food pairing

Pair with roast poultry, pork, mushrooms, or mature cheese. A powerful, textured Rebula built for the table rather than the aperitif.

Vinification

This wine was a labour of love to produce. After a spontaneous ferment with wild yeasts, the wine was racked off and returned for 12 months of skin contact before a two-year ageing in oak barrels. Unfiltered and unfined, the result is an extraordinary orange wine.

The producer

Perched on one of the steepest hills in the Brda region, right where Slovenia meets Italy, Matjaž Četrtič makes wine that feels inseparable from its place. At Ferdinand Winery, vineyards cling to steeper slopes overlooking the alpine foothills and the plains beyond.

From his teens, Matjaž had one central conviction: Rebula (the indigenous white grape of Brda) deserved to be noticed, not tucked away in anonymous blends. He built a cellar which a Bond villain would be proud of and committed himself to making Rebula the heart of everything the winery produces.
