A family legacy built around Rebula
Ferdinand Winery’s story is inseparable from Matjaž Četrtič, the winemaker who shepherds the estate today. As a teenager he took over the family’s largest vineyard parcel, driven by a conviction that the region’s native white grape Rebula (known as Ribolla Gialla just over the border in Italy) deserved to be recognised on its own terms.
Rebula isn’t just a grape here, it’s a philosophy. It forms the backbone of the winery’s range, from fresh, stainless-tank whites to oak-aged expressions, to deeply textured orange wines with extended skin contact.

Where is Ferdinand Winery?
Ferdinand Winery is located in Goriška Brda, in western Slovenia, right on the border with Italy. Often described as Slovenia’s answer to Tuscany, Brda is defined by its steep vineyard slopes, terraced hillsides and the distinctive opoka soil; a layered mix of marl and sandstone that lends structure, minerality and tension to the wines.
The region sits at a cultural and climatic crossroads. Warm Adriatic influences meet cooler Alpine air, creating ideal conditions for ripening native varieties while preserving freshness. Just across the border lies Friuli in Italy, and the shared heritage of grapes such as Rebula connects the two sides of the frontier.
It is here, among the rolling hills of Brda, that Ferdinand farms its vineyards. In a landscape where geography, soil and history combine to shape wines of precision, texture and quiet confidence.
