Part of the inspiration for starting Intrepid Wines was a frustration with the quality of so-called natural wines in the UK market. Much of the natural wine world is marketed outside of the historic appellation systems and can be difficult to benchmark. In short, buying natural wine can be a lottery.
We set out to improve on that by buying natural wines which we know and trust. Particularly from wineries with considered cellar practices, good equipment and excellent hygiene!
Slovenia has a particularly strong culture around making natural, and indeed orange wines. The climate, culture and native varieties make it much easier to produce natural wines and for many winemakers it is the default approach.
